AGM

Ballyduff Community Centre committee will hold their AGM on Thursday August 28th at 8pm in the community centre. All are welcome to attend.


CHURCH NEWS.

Fr. Francis and some volunteers are hoping to call to houses in the area to meet people and have a chat in the coming weeks. Please extend a warm welcome to them. They are delighted with the response they have received so far and are really enjoying meeting families in the area.
For the foreseeable future there will be no Saturday evening mass in Ballyduff Church. The only weekend mass will take place on Sunday morning at 10am. If you would like to book an anniversary mass for a loved one during the coming months, please contact Linda Spillane on 087 9838392 or talk to Ann in the sacristy.
Fundraising is now underway for the renovation of our beautiful church. Each household has now received an information letter about the project and how to donate. All details are also available on the parish website. The renovations are making steady progress. A few of the windows have had glass replaced and have been leaded. The next part of the renovation will include the replacement of gutters and downpipes to prevent dampness and moisture. This work has started this week. The committee would like to sincerely thank all those who have made donations so far and ask those who haven’t, to consider donating so that these renovations can continue.
A beautiful painting which was painted by Fr. Francis is on display in Centra, Kilmeaden and will be auctioned off and the proceeds given to the renovation fund.

Ballyduff AFC Academy will return on September 5th and the times are as follows, boys and girls 2020/21 at 5.15pm, girls 2018/19 at 5.15pm, boys 2019 at 6pm and boys 2018 at 6.15pm. For further information please contact a committee member or check out their Facebook page.

They are also hoping to welcome some new coaches. No experience is necessary as FAI training will be provided. BALLYDUFF LOWER GAA NOTES

The club would like to congratulate clubman Sam Masterson who scored the winning goal in the dying moments of Waterford U16’s triumph over Kildare in the national championships.
Big congratulations to Luke, Matthew and Liam who represented their county in the Jim Power Memorial U14 Inter County Football Tournament.
The U8 camogie girls put in some great performances in all their games at a recent Ferrybank blitz.
The U12 boys battled against a very strong Mullinavat side and showed some great qualities.
The numbers drawn in the latest lotto draw were 18, 19, 25 and 28 and there was no winner of the jackpot. The three lucky dip winners of €50 each were Kathleen Atkins, Dermot Dooley and Declan Ryan. The next draw will take place on Sunday August 31st and there will be a jackpot of €12,500 on offer. Tickets cost just €2 each or three for €5. They can be purchased from any committee member, online or from one of the volunteer sellers who will be at Centra, Kilmeaden on Saturday August 30th. This is the main fundraiser for the club, and they are very grateful for the support they receive.


LEAVING CERT RESULTS

Huge congratulations to all the young men and women of our area who received their Leaving Cert results last week. We hope that they are all happy and if they are feeling a little disappointed, we remind them that there are many ways and routes to get to where they want to be. We hope that they all enjoyed the celebrations and their Debs. We wish them all every happiness for the future and hope that always remain true to themselves.


AWARD WINNER.

We congratulate Rory and Maura Phelan of Sparta Dairy Ltd on winning the award for the Highest EBI Cow Classified VG/EX 2025. Field Officer Donal Carey travelled to the farm in Ross to present the award.


TUNNEL GROWING.

Colman Power will host an 11week programme in tunnel growing. Beginning on September 15th from 10am to 12 noon in Clodiagh House, Portlaw this is open to all and free of charge. To find out more information or to book your place please contact 089-2027653

COOKING CAMP.

A 3-day cooking summer camp will run at Ballyduff Community Centre from August 19th to 21st. This camp is aimed at boys and girls aged 5 years and over and will run from 10am until 1pm. Places are limited so to register your interest or to find out some more information please contact Siobhan on 087 9027425. This is a great opportunity to learn some great cooking skills while making new friends.

There were discussions about the possible return of the Saturday evening mass, graves, the forming of a parish council and the renovations to the church. Another meeting is being arranged to elect a parish committee, and notice will be given through these notes and the parish newsletter.

WSVR

Choo Choo days are back every Sunday and Wednesday during August at Waterford Suir Valley Railway. Enjoy a beautiful scenic 40-minute trip through the countryside beside Waterford Greenway and the River Suir. Take a glimpse at Mount Congreve gardens, make a wish at the Magic Wood and see four good examples of lime kilns. When you check in at the ticket office children will receive a treasure hunt page and map to enjoy on the way. Honey and Barry Bear will be there to greet you, and face painting is available. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS

Congratulations to the U11 boys who travelled to Semple Stadium to compete in the annual Munster Blitz. The boys emerged winners of three games against very competitive teams from Roscrea, Banner and Holycross. The team showed some great skill and excellent teamwork and gave a great display of hurling.

Congratulations to Trudie O Reilly and Aisling Counihan who were part of the U14 Waterford Blue Camogie team who recently won the Lily Spence Cup. These was the first time Waterford won since 2018. A big well done to Trudie and Aisling who fly those Ballyduff Lower and Waterford flags with great honour.

The U12 hurlers had a great win over St. Oliver’s with a finishing scoreline of 7-12 to 2-02. There were some great defending skills on display and some great scores taken up front.

The club would like to say a huge thank you to all who took part in the Ballyduff Lower Cul Camp. 104 boys and girls attended and had a great time making new friends and learning new skills. They were delighted to receive a visit from the Waterford Minors with the All Ireland Cup and Senior Captain Dessie Hutchinson.

The club were thrilled to welcome the Dillon Quirke Foundation to Tom Cheasty Park. 45 teenagers between 12 and 17 were tested as part of the Cardiac Screening Programme which helps prevent against Sudden Death Syndrome. On Wednesday August 6th the Dillon Quirke Foundation will visit the club to carry out their Cardiac Screening Programme on all juvenile members. The screening programme is designed to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome which takes almost 100 lives each year. The screening can help against SADS by identifying heart conditions at an early stage. If you would like to register your interest. This is a free test, but places will be limited so book early. This is a wonderful opportunity so please book your place early.

The U10’s, U11’s and U12’s teams were delighted to be treated to a training session with the great Austin Gleeson. Austin gave them all some great tips and they were all thrilled to hear Austin’s ideas. A big thank you to Michael Atkins of Kilmeaden Groundworks who sponsored gear bags and arranged for Austin to call out.
The guys were thrilled when Michael Brophy brought out the All-Ireland Minor Cup and many photos were taken.


RECENT DEATHS

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Higgins Family on the recent death of John Higgins formerly of The Cosy Thatch. John and his family were very popular during their time at The Cosy and had many friends in the area. We extend our condolences to all his family.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP.

Best wishes to Gearoid Bolger and his horse Into the Mischief who are part of the team representing Ireland at the FEI Eventing European Championship for Juniors in Strzegom. We wish the team the very best of luck and wish them a safe journey.
